Ahh...hot showers.
Well, we officially made it back yesterday to the city, after a long smelly bus ride with a flat tire partway through. I am happy to be in the land of fresh fruits and vegetables.
So, to begin the adventure in Esperanza this last time, I had a sprained ankle from something, I have no clue what(or maybe an infection, it was hard to tell, and it is still swollen). We rested for a few days, and packed to leave on the expedition to the other side of Wayqichas. Due to improper communication, the guys I work with got into a fight because they couldnt decide who would go with us. They both wanted to go. That put a slight damper on our plans, so we ended up hiking one hour into Wayqichas and camping there for 8 days. We were slightly spoiled, they brought us breakfast from the house. We had great weather until the last two days, and put in 30 orchid diversity transects in various spots of Wayqichas. We even got to go down to the river and see a pretty waterfall. We ended up eating beans with worms(John had said they were okay) and he and Stellla ended up getting sick. We encountered a fair amount of orchids we had never see before, and even found a blue orchid. Blue orchids are very rare, and it was incredible to find one in flower. We only found one plant with one flower. We had campfires at night while we tried to stay warm. But there was an outhouse, so I didnt have to use the bushes very often.
Daisy has now decided that she likes the gringas(probably because we give her candy and fruit), and so she is always following us around, trying to take or draw in our stuff, and coming up with new games. She also likes to bite or push you when you tell her know. But she has learned to make plant specimens and help us at the precocious age of 2.5. She loved the baby doll we brought for her.
We had problems with ACCA, they didnt send us our gas until our plants were starting to rot, and kept postponing sending more food. So Lucio asked them what the students were going to eat...and they promptly sent it the next day. So we did have the pleasure of eating some pancakes, which are awesome.
Well, we are leaving tomorrow to go to Puno and visit Lake Titicaca. We are taking the train, which is for 10 hours or so, so it should be interesting.
On a side note, I might have giardia or some other parasite. I was wondering why I have felt weird for over a month now. Thanks Daisy for passing it on to me.
