madrina?

The last time I was here, I was asked by Manuela, the lady who runs our hotel, to be a godmother to her sister's daughter. Not unusual, except that I have never met her sister or her child. But who has the will to refuse an honor such as this? I sure didn't. So I said yes, with a tad bit of apprehension of what I might have to do. Last night in Cusco, I ate dinner with Manuela, and I now have to meet with her sister first, who I assume wants to know if I am worthy and Catholic. Then we will set a date for the baptism after this. Made was laughing at me, because it is not very normal to have things go this way. But Manuela is my friend, so I will continue on with the plan.
On the same note, Martin asked me to be the godmother to his son. To this offer I gladly said yes, for to me it is an honor. We are good friends, and have talked about a wide array of things. I consider Martin to be very honorable and respectable, so I am very excited. It will be a baptism in the church of Paurcartambo in July. I hope all goes well, and I am able to pick the right gift. As they say here, Martin is buena gente (good people).
