La Paz

We traveled by plane back to La Paz, arriving early in the morning. We decided to treat ourselves to a top end hotel, but the hotel we had chosen was closed down. So we decided to stay at the Hotel Presidente, the highest 5 star hotel in the world (by a few meters). We were in shock how cheap stuff was in Bolivia. They even gave us a discount at the hotel for it being our first time there. We had a goal for La Paz, to mountain bike down the world’s most dangerous road. The day of the ride, I woke up and started puking, so I didn’t go. I am pretty sure my mom was a lot happier that I didn’t go. Andrew did go, and had a blast. Maybe I will get to go next time. The time we were there was right before they had a big vote. This vote had the potential to allow the president to change the constitution. So there were a lot of rallies and people blocking the road with protests. We were watching one from the view of our room (13th floor), and saw these women running up and hitting other women with their purses. We also got to see a fun group of cross dressers. They were all dressed up, with these bright and shiny costumes on. We found a bus back to Cusco that took the not as pretty way back, but was direct and we never had to change buses. In the middle of the route, a music group got on and disrupted our sleep. I raised the volume on my music and pretended to sleep, but Andrew had the money bag shoved right into his face.
